Construction Site Mapping You Can Re-Fly Weekly

Save one area mission for the whole project. Every Monday morning, the drone flies the exact same pattern — same altitude, same overlap, same start point — and you get a clean weekly progression of orthophotos and 3D models.

Built for this mission

Terrain-follow keeps GSD constant

Excavated slopes and elevated structures no longer throw off your GSD. Altitude adjusts to the ground in real time so every pixel is the same resolution.

Identical missions, week after week

Named Parcels save the boundary. Each week, load the parcel, hit Generate, get the same waypoints. No human variance = trusted weekly deltas.

Cloud 3D processing on the same platform

After the mission, drop photos into Muninn's cloud. OpenDroneMap builds a 3D model + orthophoto. No ODM install, no GPU needed.

Recommended settings

Starting values for this use case. Tune to your drone, your lighting, and your target.

Mission Type
Area (polygon or rectangle)
Altitude
60-90m AGL for 2-5 acre sites; 100-120m for larger parcels
Overlap
75% front / 70% side (dense reconstruction)
Direction
Cross-hatch (fly N-S, then fly E-W) for best photogrammetry
Capture
Continuous time-interval for speed; hover & shoot for accuracy
Terrain
Follow ON — essential for cut & fill sites

How to fly it

  1. 1Draw the site polygon; save as a Named Parcel.
  2. 2Set altitude 80m, overlap 75/70, terrain-follow ON.
  3. 3Flight time <15 min? Single battery. Over? Muninn auto-splits.
  4. 4Fly Monday mornings with the parcel pre-loaded.
  5. 5Upload photos → cloud 3D → weekly side-by-side comparison.

Questions we hear

How accurate is drone construction mapping?

With GCPs: 2-5cm absolute accuracy. Without GCPs: 30-100cm absolute, 2-5cm relative. For weekly progress tracking, relative accuracy is usually what matters.

Can I measure stockpile volumes?

Yes — run a dense 80%/75% overlap area mission over the stockpile, process in Muninn cloud, and use the orthophoto + point cloud to compute volumes in any GIS tool (QGIS, CloudCompare).

What's the minimum drone for this?

Mini 4 Pro handles small sites fine. For 10+ acre sites, Air 3S or Mavic 3 — longer battery, 4/3" sensor. Matrice for large-format photogrammetry.
